One of the most sought-after technologies in the cloud age is Kubernetes. Originally created and used by Google, it was eventually made open source. It is widely used in the SaaS model to develop software for hundreds of thousands of people to use seamlessly at the same time, served from the cloud.

While some tools are used by developers to manage the development process, many of them do not directly support Kubernetes, regardless of the cloud platform the codes may be hosted on. Gurgaon-based Devtron has a unique model for building a sustainable business in this niche segment. The seeded company created tools for developers working with Kubernetes across the world from India and made it open source.

“There are many developer tools that a developer can use today, but if they take a look at Kubernetes, we can confidently say that we offer the best flexibility on hybrid cloud platforms,” says Rajesh Razdan, co-founder of Devtron.

While not a company you usually hear about, the startup’s journey shines a light on the world of developers and the business opportunities it presents. Developers are starting to use Devtron as part of their workflow and after realizing value as individuals, they ask their bosses to get more licenses and custom features that all other teammates can use. collaborate, where Devtron makes its money.

Founded in 2019, the 15-member startup is a lightweight asset and has reported revenue of around a quarter of a million dollars with thousands of open source contributions. Devtron helps developers keep their code healthy, provide performance analytics, and improve collaboration with teammates. “If a developer is already using another tool, they can just pick and choose from us the features they don’t have in those tools and go about using both,” says Razdan.

For businesses, Razdan emphasizes the value in terms of cost, speed in terms of product deployment (week versus months), and functionality and availability of many open source IPs. “Usually 7 to 8 developers share a development tool. With Devtron, it could be around 45-50. It could be the company’s various cloud platforms and projects and other development tools, ”says Razdan.

Developers end up becoming the reason for the popularity of the platform. In addition, Devtron is working with universities from top Indian technology institutes to research and integrate AI into their platforms. “This will drive more automation in DevOps and provide better functionality and better business results,” he says.
