Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat was present on Saturday for the signing of a cooperation agreement between Nokia International and EAI Factory for Advanced Industries for the production of Nokia phones in Egypt.
A statement from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology says the goal is to manufacture one million phones in the current year, and production will double in the coming years.
The signing of the cooperation agreement took place between HMD International, owner of the global Nokia brand, and Etisal Company for Advanced Industries (EAI) in Egypt.
Targeted products include feature phones and smart phones.
The agreement was signed by Tamer al-Gamal, general manager of HMD in Egypt, and general manager of Etisal Advanced Industries, EAI, Ahmed Abu-Ouf.
The signing was attended by Head of Operations at HMD Global OY, Alain Lejeune, Nokia Brand Owner, Won Chang, Executive Vice President of Products, Executive Director of Technology Industry Development Authority of Information, Amr Mahfouz, Deputy Chairman of Information Technology Industry Development Authority, Hossam Othman, and leaders from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Etisalat for Advanced Industries, EAI and HMD.
Talaat said that this agreement stems from the state’s efforts to create a favorable climate for the growth of investment by international companies in Egypt.
It also serves to affirm the government’s interest in encouraging the private sector to manufacture in Egyptian factories, he said, thereby transferring their expertise and localizing and developing the electronics industry – creating opportunities for skilled jobs for young people in the field of information technology and electronics.
Talaat pointed out that Egypt is taking regular steps to deepen local manufacturing in the implementation of the presidential initiative “Egypt Makes Electronics”, which aims to strengthen Egypt’s position in the field. design and manufacture of electronics.
For his part, Abu-Ouf said that the agreement covers the production of international quality mobile phones, including electronic components, assembly, packaging and testing, to be completely similar to international products in terms of of quality and efficiency.
He added that this will fulfill Egypt’s strategy in its efforts to localize the technology industry and make Egypt a regional center for high-tech industries.
Gamal said that under the agreement, HMD will provide EAI Factory with the production requirements of raw materials, inspection and test tools and calibration equipment necessary for the production process.
