RtBrick more than doubles the number of subscribers that can be served by a single open switch | National

PRINCETON, NJ–(BUSINESS WIRE)–April 20, 2022–

RtBrick has raised the bar for the number of broadband subscribers that can be delivered from white-boxed hardware. RtBrick achieved this performance boost by optimizing system resources on the underlying silicon and taking advantage of a new iteration of its RBFS software, known as RBFS Essentials.

Using bare metal switches based on the latest Broadcom Qumran2C chipsets, RtBrick’s software can now terminate up to seventy-five thousand subscribers on a single device, reducing the hardware costs associated with delivering broadband services. By comparison, conventional routers are limited to around thirty thousand subscribers on similarly sized platforms, which typically cost significantly more.

“This is a big shift in the economics of the broadband industry,” said Pravin S Bhandarkar, Founder and CEO of RtBrick. “Some of our customers require complex service profiles, which impact hardware performance and cost. But many other carriers just want to provide high-speed Internet services at low cost. With white box hardware and RtBrick’s new RBFS Essentials software, these carriers can now deliver broadband services at scale using a Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) that costs significantly less than conventional systems.

RtBrick’s BNG software was recently selected by the TIP OpenBNG initiative, based on criteria defined by five Tier 1 operators: BT, Deutsche Telekom, Telefonica, Telecom Italia Mobile and Vodafone, and has already been deployed in the broadband network of Deutsch Telekom production. Deutsch Telekom is the largest telecommunications operator in Europe.
