ISG Provider Lens Report Says Companies Have Accelerated SDN Deployments to Increase Network Capacity and Cloud-Based Resources for Remote Work, Supply Chain, and Logistics Challenges

Australian businesses have stepped up their adoption of software-defined networks (SDNs) in response to changes in work and customer behavior caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a new report released today by Information Services Group (ISG ), a global technology research and consulting firm.

Report 2021 ISG Provider Lens Network – Software Defined Solutions and Services for Australia finds that companies here are deploying SDN technologies as part of larger digital transformations to increase their agility, flexibility and competitiveness. The pandemic has forced companies to quickly add applications and network resources, especially to enable remote working and address supply chain and logistics challenges, and they are modernizing their networks to make this possible.

“Australian businesses are finding that SDN technologies and services can both streamline network management and help them drive new technology initiatives.

The massive shift to working from home during the pandemic has forced businesses to move more workloads, especially for video conferencing and unified communications, to distributed networks and cloud-hosted resources, the report says. For some, a greater reliance on the Internet to connect with customers has also increased network demand. To keep pace, IT departments had to rapidly increase network capacity, which prompted them to reexamine their network configurations and security.

It is likely that many of the new employee and customer behaviors that emerged during the pandemic will continue after the lockdowns are phased out, according to the ISG. Many organizations will continue to support employees working from home and implement hybrid approaches that combine home and office work, leading to a continued increase in reliance on Software Defined Wide Area Networks (SD-WANs). Likewise, as the long-term trend from in-person shopping to online shopping continues, SDN can help businesses respond to customer inquiries quickly and transparently.

Although Australian companies have stepped up SDN deployments during the pandemic, many have made network transformations over the past four years to lay the groundwork for new technologies such as advanced computing, artificial intelligence-based solutions , rapid provisioning of hotspots and based networks, according to ISG. SDN technologies also allow enterprises to manage entire WANs from a single window and enforce policy-based management services with rules based on service level agreements and KPIs.

The report assesses the capabilities of 50 vendors in six quadrants: Managed WAN (SD) Services, SDN Transformation Services (Consulting and Implementation), SD-WAN (DIY) Equipment and Service Providers, Technology and services (Core – 4G / 5G), Advanced Technologies and Services and 5G Enterprise Solutions.

The names of the reports Infosys, Telstra and Wipro as leaders in the six quadrants and Orange Business Services and Tech Mahindra as leaders in five quadrants each. Cisco and HPE Aruba are named Leaders in three quadrants and Nexion and NTT in two quadrants each. The report names Cato Networks, Data # 3, Datacom, Dicker Data, IBM, Juniper Networks, Macquarie Telecom, Optus, Tata Communications, Verizon, VMware (Velocloud) and Vocus as leaders in one quadrant each.

Additionally, Apcela, Coevolve, Empired, Lumen, TCS, Versa Networks and Vodafone are named Rising Stars – companies with a “promising portfolio” and “high future potential” as defined by ISG – in one quadrant each. .
