tvOS 15.5 and watchOS 8.6 updates focus on security

Apple

Where iOS 15.5, iPadOS 15.5 and macOS 12.4 provided new functionality, tvOS 15.5 and watchOS 8.6 are more similar to macOS 11.6.6 and the 2022-004 Catalina security update in that they only provide fixes unspecified bugs and security updates.

But tvOS 15.5 contains 20 security updates – including issues that could be exploited to run arbitrary code, in several cases with kernel privileges – so there’s no excuse not to update yours soon. Apple TV 4K, Apple TV 4K (2nd generation), or Apple Television HD.

The same goes for watchOS 8.6 (for Apple Watch Series 3 and later), although it includes slightly fewer security fixes.

One change is that the Apple Watch ECG feature is now available in Mexico.

Apple makes no mention of the security issues addressed by HomePod 15.5 software, referring only to “general performance and stability improvements.”
